So this past weekend, Lori Boruff and I held our first joint workshop together. It was held at the One Eighty Community Center and the focus was "Your Story, God's Glory." I shared about the importance of writing your life-story, for the purpose of passing it on to future generations. Lori shared on how to actually TELL your story through public speaking. Here are a few things that happened that I was totally not expecting: 1. A line to register. How incredible to see that people in this area are genuinely interested in learning how their story can make a difference through writing and speaking. 2. A microphone. That went around my ear. I've held a microphone a few times in my life. This was new. I went into the bathroom to put it on. And then I did a "check-check." From the bathroom. Just for fun. 3. A proud husband. Now don't get me wrong. I have always known that Brian supports me, encourages me and is proud of the work that I do. He actually helps lift me up when I feel insecure. I needed him with me on Saturday to help set up and take a few pictures and for moral support. But this guy...my guy...has discovered FB Live. He recorded my entire speech. Live. I thought he was sort of just gonna do a few photos. Maybe a little snippet of a video when I was at my best. Not the entire thing. Live. My first response was to think about how it shouldn't have been recorded live because it was my first big event and what if I sound stupid and unprofessional and then it is out there for the rest of the world to NOT HIRE ME. But his response when I asked him about this after: eyes that filled. with pride. So I couldn't be mad. All in all, it was a great turnout, and I'm excited to followup with those who would like to host workshops with their small groups and women's ministry events, and even a couple who need a ghostwriter or writing coach. I sure am glad I stepped out of the boat.
