FLOURISH WRITERS' CONFERENCE

2/12/2019

If you are new to my neck of the world-wide-web, I'd like to extend a warm
WELCOME!

Picture
I'm participating as  one of the faculty members for Flourish Gathering's online writers' conference. I'll be speaking about legacy writing, what it is, why all Christians (writers and non-writers alike) should care about legacy writing, and ways to actually write your story for the purpose of leaving a spiritual legacy. If you found out about me through this conference, send me a note, I'd love to hear from you.

If you haven't registered for this conference, you'll really want to. Why?
1. It's FREE! Register here: FLOURISH WRITERS' CONFERENCE
2. For 6 days you'll hear from 25 authors, publishing and marketing experts.
3. I'll be there! ;)
4. You can attend this conference in your pajamas. (I may or may not have recorded my session wearing my pajamas. But you can't tell because I wore make-up!) It's everything a writers' conference offers delivered to you in the comfort of your home.
5. Did I mention that it's free? Use the link above!

I'd also like to mention that the designers from Flourish helped me to create a beautiful Legacy of Faith Journal. If you decide to subscribe to receive emails from me, you'll receive this as my personal "thank you." I love this journal because you can record and preserve your testimony and eye-witness accounts of your own encounters with God. I think you'll love it too.

The email subscription link in on the home page.

And while you are here, feel free to walk around and get to know the place. Open the cupboards, rummage through the drawers. Get to know my story a bit. When you are comfortable, I hope you'll share a bit of yours!

Thank you for your talk at Flourish Conference regarding Legacy Writing. As I listened to you an idea hit me... actually related to my job (as well as my personal story). I work for the Department of Veterans Affairs... and I believe we need to preserve our Veterans’ stories for the next generation. Legacy Writing and even Ghost Writing seem perfect and I am planning to write up a white paper with the idea and send it forward. If you have any recommendations... for interviewing, ghost writing, anything that I can learn from and include in my proposal I am all ears!
Eager to learn more,
Jaime Bernhardt

Jaime,
EXCELLENT IDEA! YES! We 100% need to preserve our Veteran's stories. I have spoken with a personal historian who records video interviews. The work he does is wonderful!
Interview tips: I tend to go into an interview with only a handful of specific questions, and then I listen and ask questions based on our conversation.
Please let me know how this goes for you or if you would like me to read your proposal. I truly believe you will find this to be valuable work!

Hi Robin, I had tears listening to you share your grandmother's touching story. How like God to allow her to finish her manuscript before she visited her heavenly home! I've been working on a memoir for the last five years, and it has completely changed from where it started. Really enjoyed listening to your journey :)

Penelope,

Thank you so much for the kind words. It's amazing to be able to look back and see how God's timing was at play throughout the entire process.

Glad to hear that you are writing your story! May it bless many!

Robin,

I was quite taken by a quote you gave in the Flourish webinar, "Your story can make heaven look different," really captured me. I've worked in recent years as a volunteer with campus ministry and I'm astounded at how different these up and coming generations are and how much work my generation needs to be doing to continue spreading the gospel.

I also shared a similar experience of you helping your grandmother tell her stories. As the "amatuer genealogist" in our family, I've helped my parents share their stories to pass along to their great-grandchildren. It was a blessing that is now moving me to find my voice in telling my own God stories.

You're the first person I've connected with in terms of how our past history shapes our stories, especially in regards to our stories of faith. God has been prompting me for several years to write about Him and these Flourish training sessions are helping me figure out what that means and perhaps how to do it.

I wanted to personally thank you for being part of this process, I know your words will stay with me as I move forward. Blessings to you, Bobbie

I'm so glad you connected with the message I shared in the Flourish Conference. It truly is the message God has placed on my heart. I wholeheartedly agree that we need to share our stories and we never know the ripple effect that doing so can have.

Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a note here. Hope to "see you around" more!

I haven't figured out how to download the journal prompts... Is that only for those who upgrade?

Beth,
Actually this is one of the freebies from the conference. All you need to do is subscribe to my email list and I'll email you back with a pdf download.
(Sorry this is a late response. You may have already done this)

I loved listening to your session. You have a warm, sincere spirit that permeates through the computer screen barrier, and I love your sense of humor!
We have similar passions for sharing God stories. My website's tagline is "Tell the Next Generation." I like encouraging people to do that through the power of story, history, and His Story. I'd love to have you guest blog for me sometime if you're interested. :)
May the Lord continue to bless you and the work of your hands for His glory.

Thank you for sharing, Robin.

I've had a small idea for writing my grandpa's story, but he is not a believer. Any tips for how to honor the meaningfulness of his life, even if he doesn't necessarily see "God threads" through it?

Liberty,

GREAT QUESTION! I may have to do a blog post on this.

Yes, I do have some tips. When you interview your grandpa, start with questions that include facts like who, what, when, where, etc. Usually this will turn the wheels for memories that he may bring up. As you sum up each "story" or memory, you have the opportunity to ask questions like, "what did that mean to you?" or "what did you learn from that experience that you would want me or others to know?" This may get grandpa thinking a little more, or it may open up the conversation for you to say how you can see how God intervened.

I hope this helps. Keep me posted and I'l be praying for grandpa!

Thank you, Robin. I appreciate it a lot. :) I actually will be visiting him in two weeks, so that may be the time to bring this up.

God has been showing me to do this for a while. I have started and stopped again. Now, as team mates, we can all "finish the Race"! Thanks for the Legacy of Faith Journal. I know it will be an inspiration with my own God Story!

Hi Robin,

I loved your presentation on legacy writing. My mom was well into her 80's, and was going blind from an eye condition called macular degeneration, when I found out that she had started writing her life story. My siblings and I thought this was a great idea and began having weekly meetings with her where she would tell her story and I wrote it down. We got it printed and she handed it out to her children/grandchildren/great-grandchildren on her 90th birthday. She has since passed on and the stories she left behind are invaluable. Thanks for a great presentation!!

Eva,
Thank you for taking the time to visit here and comment. What a WONDERFUL legacy your grandmother left behind. And what a WONDERFUL experience to be a part of her writing it. Your grandmother's story lives on!

Hi Robin
I haven't made it all the way through but I love hearing you share your story and your passion for writing. I look forward to hearing more. I need to getgmy grandma's story down. This have me such a great idea to do with a do journal I gave her quite awhile back. I asked to to write her story to leave for me. She is one of my greatest friends and mentors in the world. I need to introduce her to you. We need to get together and collaborate on a project sometime. Have a great day.

Robin, At first when I looked at the title of your talk, I thought, “my sister is already doing a book on our family history so I’ll listen to this later when I have time.” Then I felt prompted to stop there and then and listen. It was more than just about family history and leaving a legacy. I realised from listening to you that my writing would come from a more emotional place and will include God and how He has been with me along the way. My sister’s book is more of an ancestory/academic book. Thoroughly enjoyed listening to you. Thank you.

Jennifer,

I'm so glad you enjoyed the session. I truly believe there is value in documenting family history the way your sister is doing AND include the threads of faith throughout when you can.

Thank you for taking the time to be a part of the Flourish Writers Conference and comment here. You have encouraged me today.
